Alabama huge favorite, oddsmakers still giving Michigan hope

Alabama is now the overwhelming favorite to make the College Football Playoff, which won’t come as much of a surprise. The undefeated Crimson Tide will likely take over the top spot in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night.

If Nick Saban’s team holds on to the top spot for the next 3 weeks, who will join them in the CFP field? Sports book Bovada listed its College Football Playoff odds heading into Week 12 on Tuesday. Clemson (2-5 odds), Oklahoma (1-2) and Miami (5-7) were listed as the next 3 favorites behind Alabama (1-7).

Kevin McGuire of College Football Talk tweeted out the full list, which includes some interesting numbers.

Wisconsin (3-2) is the closest team outside the top 4 and Ohio State (3-1) also still has a solid chance to make the Playoff in the eyes of the oddsmakers. But the most intriguing Big Ten team on the list is Michigan at 10-1.

Written off after a 29-point loss at Penn State on Oct. 21, Jim Harbaugh’s team has easily won 3 straight games and has the best chance for a late-season resume boost of any team in the country. Michigan plays at Wisconsin this Saturday and then caps its regular season by hosting Ohio State on Nov. 25.

If the Wolverines can pull off both upsets, they would finish 10-2 and look like one of the hottest teams in the country. Michigan still wouldn’t be able to win the Big Ten East crown in this scenario due to tiebreakers unless Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan State all lost another game. But still, the Wolverines could possibly put themselves into the top 10 and on the fringes of the College Football Playoff conversation.

So don’t give up title hopes just yet, Michigan fans. The oddsmakers haven’t.
