More than a half-dozen schools have sought new leadership amid growing turnover of their investing chiefs. Harvard University, Dartmouth College, University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins University have hired new endowment heads in the past 18 months.
At BlackRock in New York, Deshler managed a global team of investment researchers across asset classes. Prior to that, she worked at Credit Suisse Asset Management as a portfolio manager and research head.
Carleton is a private college of 2,000 students located 40 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The endowment gained 9.2 percent in fiscal 2017, an annualized 6.3 percent for five years and 3.7 percent for the past 10 years, according to a college spokesman.
