Betting on Week 1 of the 2017 college football season opened Thursday at the South Point sports book in Las Vegas.
While there are four games scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 26, the season begins in earnest the following week, with games Thursday through Monday.
Chris Andrews, sports book director at the South Point, told VSiN.com that Ohio State is his top-rated team and Alabama is No. 2. The Buckeyes are 21-point favorites at Indiana on Thursday, Aug. 31, while the Crimson Tide lay 4 points against Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game on Saturday, Sept. 2 at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a neutral site.
In another highlight of the season’s opening Saturday, Michigan is a 3-point favorite against Florida at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., while the last three games on the Week 1 board are of marquee quality as well – Virginia Tech (-5) vs. West Virginia (at Landover, Maryland), Texas A&M (+4) at UCLA and Tennessee (-3) vs. Georgia Tech (at Atlanta).
Defending champion Clemson opens as a 40-point home favorites vs. Kent State, but the biggest point spread on the board is 48 for Texas-El Paso at Oklahoma.
