The North Central College men’s cross country team clinched its 18th NCAA Division III national championship on Nov. 18 at Principia College, and Stevenson graduate Jared Borowsky led the way for the Cardinals. North Central came within five points of tying its own record for the largest margin of victory in a national-title race.
Borowsky, a freshman from Lincolnshire, was the runner-up on the 4.97-mile course by clocking in with a time of 24 minutes, 12.44 seconds. Niles North graduate Dhruvil Patel, a junior and Skokie resident, came in third place in 24:14.15. Borowsky and Patel were named All-Americans for their high finishes.
Michael Anderson (Prospect), Nebil Mohamed (Niles North), James Rector (Highland Park) and Stuart Todd-Middleditch (Barrington) are also on the team.
Doyle bolsters Iowa women’s hoops
Through 11 games, the Iowa women’s basketball team was flying high with a 10-1 record. Kathleen Doyle, a sophomore guard from La Grange Park, has averaged nearly 10 points, five rebounds and five assists per game to boost the Hawkeyes. She played in nine of the team’s first 11 games and scored double-digit points four times. Arguably her best game came against Western Kentucky, when she had 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 30 minutes. Doyle, a Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection a year ago, was second on the team with nine steals as of Friday.

Porter earns MWC weekly award
Eric Porter, a senior guard on the Lake Forest College men’s basketball team, was named the Midwest Conference Men’s Basketball Performer of the Week on Dec. 4. Porter is the second-leading scorer in the MWC and a former Deerfield standout, and he has been on an absolute tear this season.
He scored 42 points in a Dec. 2 win against high-flying Grinnell College. Porter shot 12-of-19 from the field, including an 11-for-18 performance from 3-point range in 32 minutes of play. He powered the Foresters to 104 points, the team’s highest offensive output of the season, and his 11 triples matched his own program record.
Porter followed that up with 26 points on 8-of-14 3-point shooting on Dec. 6 against Illinois College. Senior forward Orlando Brown, a Hinsdale South graduate, is also on the team.
