Despite the rain, plenty of optimism at Le Moyne College’s 68th Commencement

Syracuse, N.Y. — A steady rain didn’t dampen  Le Moyne College’s 68th Commencement ceremonies in Syracuse. Carrying umbrellas, and wearing rain ponchos, friends and family watched and cheered on the recent graduated.

745 students received  their degrees with 232 receiving a Bachelor of Arts and 513 receiving a Bachelor of Science.

The commencement speaker was literacy pioneer Ruth Johnson Colvin 101 years old, a member of the National Women’s Hall of Fame,  recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She is believed to be at 101 years old , the oldest  commencement speaker ever. 

Colvin received an honorary degree, with two others, Oren Lyons, an activist for indigenous and environmental justice, and Sean Kirst, an award-winning journalist and author.
