EMORY, Va. — Prospective students can earn and save money in their search for the right college fit as part of the Virginia Private College Week from July 24-29, hosted by the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV) and Emory & Henry College.
The E&H Admissions Office offers student-led campus tours and information sessions during the weeklong celebration of the 24 participating private colleges and universities in Virginia. The event allows students and families to learn more about the admissions process, academics, campus life and the power of a private, liberal arts college education.
“Visiting campuses in person is one of the most important steps in the college search process,” explains Robert Lambeth, president of CICV. “I encourage parents to explore which college will be the best fit for their son or daughter, and I want to reassure them that a quality education at a Virginia private college is affordable and within reach.”
High school students can earn scholarship money by visiting colleges, participating in college fairs, receiving good grades and other extracurricular activities through E&H’s partnership with Raise.me. Starting July 1, the summer of a student’s ninth-grade year, and ending on Dec. 1 of the student’s 12th-grade year, students enter accomplishments toward scholarship funds to Emory & Henry. Raise.Me is for first-year students entering college for the first time. A student can earn up to $1,500 over their high school career for E&H College visits, or $375 scholarship per visit annually.
In addition to earning Raise.me scholarship funds for E&H, students who visit at least three CICV institutions during the week receive three application fee waivers. Students may use these waivers to apply to other Virginia Private Colleges.
“Virginia Private College Week provides prospective students an opportunity to visit many of the outstanding, private colleges in Virginia,” said Mary Bolt, Interim Director of First-Year Admissions at Emory & Henry College.”We are excited to welcome you and your families to our campus to experience first-hand the uniqueness of Emory & Henry.”
Students may add E&H to their college list, and choose a session at 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. on Monday through Friday, or schedule a Saturday morning session at 9 a.m. Families can schedule their visit by filling out a personalized form at www.ehc.edu/pcw.
