Fire at Skidmore College closes down art building

SARATOGA SPRINGS — A fire at Skidmore College early Sunday morning has closed down the Sasselin Art Building.

Diane O’Connor, director of campus and media relations at the college, said the fire broke out on the third floor at 2:19 a.m. and was extinguished by 2:44 a.m. No injuries were report, but a number of offices and classrooms were affected.

“There is not expected to be any structural damages to the building itself,” O’Connor said. “But the building will be closed until the cleanup of water and smoke damage on the first, second and third floors can be completed.”

O’Connor said she does not know what caused the fire or when the building will reopen.
