Gunman opens fire in failed robbery attempt near Brooklyn College

Shots rang out yards away from the Brooklyn College campus Tuesday afternoon, police sources said.

Cops do not believe the mayhem, which erupted on E. 27th St. and Campus Road in Flatbush at about 4 p.m., had anything to do with the school or its students, officials said.

The clash stemmed from an incident earlier in the day, when a group of men tried to rob another man at the corner of Nostrand and Flatbush Aves., police sources said.

The victim summoned his friends, one of whom showed up with a BB gun, and they confronted their would-be robbers on the corner of E. 27th St. and Campus Road, sources said.

One of the robbers pulled out a real gun and opened fire, sources said.

No one was struck by the gunfire, authorities said.

Police arrived soon after, taking two people into custody, including the man who brought the BB gun, sources said.

Charges against the two apprehended suspects are pending.

Police were looking for the shooter and the original victim of the robbery attempt, sources said.
