Gunshot Victim Walks Into George Washington University Hospital, Causes Brief Lockdown

A gunshot victim walked into the emergency room at George Washington University Hospital on Tuesday night, causing a search for the gunman in the immediate area.

Police said the man was conscious and breathing when he entered. They closed the 900 block of 23rd Street Northwest between Washington Circle to I Street Northwest.

A hospital spokewoman said the facility was briefly placed in lockdown but has returned to normal operations. She said the victim was shot on the public street near the Foggy Bottom Metro Station and the entrance to the hospital.

Police said the shooting was likely the result of a dispute and not a random situation. The victim has not been identified.
