SAN JOSE — A woman was found shot to death Monday evening a couple of blocks from San Jose State University, marking the city’s 15th homicide of the year.
Police were called just after 5 p.m. to the 600 block of South 10th Street for a welfare check. A caller stated that he heard “loud bangs” coming from inside a residence.
Officers found a woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motive and circumstances for the killing are under investigation and police had not publicly identified a suspect as of 11:15 p.m.
The identity of the woman will not be released until the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has confirmed her identity and her next of kin have been notified.
The homicide is the 15th of the year in San Jose. There were 25 homicides at this point last year.
