JCCC ranked among safest college in the country, according to major security company

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Johnson County Community College is one of the safest colleges in the country, according to ADT.

The security company utilized data from the U.S. Department of Education and FBI to compile its list, where JCCC is ranked seventh overall.

Crime Prevention Officer Dan Robles thinks, “It has to do with our community policing program.”

The college runs several safety programs that cover everything from violent intruders to sexual assault. Robles attributes their success to the fact that students, “See us a lot and they like our presence here.”

Here are some of the things the college does:

  • Emergency phones on campus
  • Locations posted visibly in each classroom
  • Bike patrol officers
  • Foot officers
  • Campus-wide alert system for monitors and mobile devices
  • ALICE training
