A brush fire that erupted in Malibu Thursday afternoon has forced at least one road closure and was expected to cause major traffic delays along Pacific Coast Highway.
Topanga Canyon Boulevard was closed north of PCH, and one or more lanes of PCH could also be closed, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which is handling the response.
The Topanga Canyon had so far burned 4 or 5 acres. The winds were calm and no structures were immediately threatened, but LAFD firefighters were preparing to protect homes on Coastline Drive.
Fire officials urged commuters to take alternate routes.
Meanwhile, another brush fire has erupted near Mulholland Drive and Malibu Canyon Road in Calabasas. That fire was being handled by county firefighters — the L.A. Fire Department noted that they were handling the Malibu fire, even though it was in L.A. County Fire’s jurisdiction, due to the two simultaneous fires breaking out.
