Miami football isn’t the only school team starting its season ranked in the top 25.
“Perhaps Duke’s biggest competition in the ACC, the Hurricanes will have one of the nation’s best backcourts in Ja’Quan Newton, Bruce Brown Jr. and incoming five-star Lonnie Walker IV. Walker had knee surgery in July, but should be ready for the season. Miami was just 4-11 against top-50 teams last season; that needs to change,” ESPN.com’s Jeff Brozello wrote.
The Hurricanes finished the season 21-12 and 10-8 in the ACC before being bounced in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Michigan State. Miami returns the formidable backcourt of Newton and Brown who averaged a combined 25.3 points per game and 6.6 assists per game.
Coach Jim Larranaga said Walker should be “close to 100 percent” by the time UM faces Gardner-Webb to open the season Nov. 10.
