LIVERMORE (CBS SF) — A student bringing a Nerf toy gun on campus at Las Positas College in Livermore prompted a lockdown and shelter-in-place order Wednesday morning, according to Livermore police.
Livermore police wrote on Twitter at 11:34 a.m. that they were investigating a “suspicious occurrence” at the campus at 3000 Campus Hill Drive.
Students as the college received an alert saying: “This is a message from the Las Positas College Emergency Alert System. Emergency situation. Remain where you are and shelter in place until further notice.”
Around 11:45 a.m, Chopper 5 captured video of two people who were detained by authorities. Their role in the lockdown was not immediately clear and police did not released their identities.
Shortly after noon, police wrote that the lockdown had been lifted and later said the Nerf gun was what prompted the response.
Police said the student had “no intent to cause harm or problems.”
Las Positas College officials said on Twitter that classes and activities on campus were restarting Wednesday afternoon.
