Recycling day at Lake Michigan College | Local News

BENTON TOWNSHIP — The ninth annual Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Day will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake Michigan College Napier Avenue campus parking lot, 2755 E. Napier Ave. The event is sponsored by the Berrien County Parks Department and Lake Michigan College.

This event is open to Berrien County residents only, and no business waste is allowed. Volunteers will be on hand to unload items from vehicles.

Accepted items include electronics, appliances, household chemicals, home medical waste, magazines, books, hard foam or Polystyrene, pairs of shoes, eyeglasses, bicycles, clean/empty plastic grocery bags, and personal documents for on-site shredding. American flags in disrepair will be accepted for proper retirement and disposal.

The electronics accepted include computers, televisions, large and small appliances, printers, or anything with a cord or battery. The household chemical waste accepted includes home, garden, workshop and garage chemicals and liquids, unwanted pills and sharps, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and more. Latex paint will not be accepted. A complete list of accepted items is found at the website.

There is a recycling fee of $10 per computer monitor and $20 per television (all types). Other items are accepted at no cost. However, donations will be accepted to offset event costs. Payment must be made by cash or check, made out to County of Berrien, at the event.
