WESTFIELD – Westfield State University celebrated ‘Come Back to the Nest 2017’ weekend with events designed to entertain family, friends, faculty, alumni, and staff, along with a special ribbon cutting and dedication of the newly renovated Catherine Dower Performing and Fine Arts Center at Westfield State University.
The former Juniper Park Elementary School building on the Westfield State University campus was renovated with the help of a $1-million donation from the late Dr. Catherine Dower, a former music department chair, professor emerita, and a longtime supporter of the university’s music program.
The donation came in 2015 and was the largest ever individual donation. It was intended to renovate the former school building which will now houses the new Art Department, Music Department and Theatre Arts program.
Included in the Saturday dedication ceremony was the Vice President of M. Steinert & Sons Director of Institutional Sales Brendan P. Murphy who presented a plaque to Westfield State University President Dr. Ramon S. Torrecilha, for the recognition of the schools status as being an “all Steinway school.”
With the renovation of the building, the university also purchased 20 Steinway & Sons pianos.
Included in the family weekend activities were food trucks, an outdoor movie, a fun run/walk, campus tours and a football, field hockey, volleyball and soccer game.
