Clark, UC out to snap 2-game losing streak/
Want to buy the University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team floor? You can, starting with a bid of $30,000-plus.
The UC court is up for bids, per govdeals.com. Billed as “NCAA Division 1 Portable Basketball Floor,” the site says:
“This floor was purchased in 2003 from Connor Sports and has been used by the University of Cincinnati Division I NCAA Bearcat Basketball Teams since then. The manufacturer still sells this type of floor under their Quicklock Portable Floor branding. Overall, it is 56 feet wide by 136 feet long for a total of 7616 square feet. This auction consists of 263 total pieces. (215 4’x8’ + 40 4’x4’ + 4 2’x8’ and 4 2’x4’) The panels are currently on 19 4×8 pallets. (The carts seen in some of the pictures are not included.).”
UC is playing home games this season at Northern Kentucky University’s BB&T Arena, while the Bearcats’ on-campus Fifth Third Arena is undergoing an $87 million renovation.
The govdeals.com site further notes:
“REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS: This floor is being sold from BB&T arena located at: Northern Kentucky University, 500 Louie B Nunn Dr, Highland Heights, KY 41099. The purchaser MUST remove the floor from its current location between March 12th and March 15th.
Hours of operation at the selling location are 7 am to 3 pm EST. The floor panels are already on pallets but will require banding for proper transport. There is a forklift available at the location but an operator will not be provided. The BB&T arena does have a normal loading dock with an articulating leveler, but this floor is normally moved on a flatbed truck outside the loading dock as the pallets are too wide to go into a semi-trailer.
“They cannot be moved/loaded lengthwise with the equipment available at the arena. The athletic department uses a local vendor to transport the floor in the manner described above and we can supply their contact information if a potential buyer wishes to contact them for a quote. We will require 48 hours notification prior to removal.”
The govdeals.com site lists a starting bid of $30,000, with $500 bid increment. Tax is 7% and buyer’s premium 10%. The auction ends March 8 at 8:20 p.m.
UC was to play Connecticut at NKU on Thursday night. The Bearcats’ final home game at NKU is Sunday, Feb. 25 against Tulsa.
UC has played on two different floors for its “home” games this season at NKU. When time and logistics have permitted, UC has used its own floor including the C-Paw logo and red-and-black school colors. At other times, scheduling conflicts did not allow enough time for workers to switch between the black-and-gold NKU themed floor and UC’s floor. On those occasions, the Bearcats played on the NKU floor.
