University of Houston officials canceled an alert Tuesday afternoon shortly after warning of a person near the university’s baseball field who they believed to have a weapon.
UH police later said the suspect was no longer in the vicinity of campus.
“The athletic complex and all UH facilities were searched and cleared,” a subsequent alert read.
Officers with the Pasadena Police Department had been chasing robbery suspects from their city Tuesday afternoon when the suspects bailed out of their vehicles near Interstate 45 and Cullen Boulevard and ran toward campus, according to Pasadena Police Spokesperson Vance Mitchell.
University spokesman Mike Rosen said the individual ran onto the perimeter of campus, near the baseball field.
Officials did not say what type of weapon the person reportedly has.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a gray shirt with black sleeves and black pants. Students and faculty were urged to avoid the west side of campus, and those who were off campus are advised to remain away.
Officers from the University of Houston and Texas Southern University are assisting in the search.
