University of West Georgia student shot near the Strip – News – Tuscaloosa News

A University of West Georgia student in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama-LSU football game was in critical condition after a shooting near the Strip early Sunday.

The man, 19, was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, said Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit commander Capt. Gary Hood.

Witnesses told police the man was selling narcotics to three men in the 1400 block of Sixth Street before he was shot at 2:15 a.m., Hood said. Witnesses told police they heard shots before seeing a white, four-door vehicle leaving the area.

Officers responded and found the victim face-down in a parking lot and suffering from life-threatening injuries.

He remained in critical condition Sunday morning.
