Post-Treatment Cancer Group. This group offers cancer survivors a chance to learn about the late effects of cancer treatment. The program provides the opportunity to share and learn from other participants regardless of their specific cancer diagnosis or course of treatment. The meetings will feature local experts giving presentations related to cancer treatment and survivorship. This fall’s cancer survivorship series will take place on the second Tuesday of each month: 4-5 p.m. Oct. 10, Nov. 14, and Dec. 12. Attendance at each weekly session is strongly advised. New York City: Avon Breast Cancer Walk. The Avon Foundation for Women’s two-day, 39-mile walk. The motto: “No matter how far you walk, you’ll crush fear, doubt and breast cancer — one persistent step and donation at a time.” Takes place in New York City over two days. The Breast Center at Nyack Hospital will offer free breast exams, mammography, and if needed, pelvic exams with PAP tests for women ages 40 and over with no insurance or who are underinsured in Rockland County. Screening will be available from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Robbie Kempner, MD, FACS, surgeon and medical director of Breast and Women’s Health Services along with other breast health professionals will be performing the breast exams. Walk-ins are welcome but registration is strongly recommended. Refreshments will be provided.
